What is Leatherette (PU)?
PU leather, often known as synthetic leather, is a synthetic leather made from polyurethane – a plastic that has a similar look and feel to genuine leather – but without the use of any animal products. In general, PU leather has the same texture as animal skin (genuine leather). Low quality PU Leatherette’s are often less durable and tend to rip apart easily however, high quality leatherette such as the one we use offer a similar durability to that of Genuine Leather. Additionally, Leatherette is more UV resistant compared to Genuine Leather, which is why it is frequently used to cover automobile seats and faux leather furniture. Another difference between Genuine Leather and PU is that PU retains a consistent and uniform look and feel over the course of its life whereas Genuine Leather usually gets softer over time and requires treatment to maintain its appearance.
